Guidelines for Volunteering

Our volunteers are our most important asset and they do a remarkable job for the animals, the shelter and our programs. Every day, volunteers improve the lives of the animals here at Saving Grace. Our volunteers help thousands animals a year through fostering, dog walking, or working in our shelter.

Individuals should be at least 16 years of age to volunteer independently.  Youth ages 10-15 may volunteer alongside a parent or guardian.  Please submit an application for both adult and child.

If you would like to join us to find homes for pets, foster animals in your home, educate the public or raise funds, please complete a Volunteer ApplicationOnce your completed application is received you will be contacted to sign up for an orientation.

We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of once per week for 3 months or more. Arrangements for court mandated community service and volunteer projects for groups can be made by contacting us at 541-672-3907 ext. 111 or volunteer@savinggrace.infoThis email address is being protected from spambots. Volunteer Opportunities

Foster Care Parents

Are you willing and able to open your heart and home to temporarily care for the needs of puppies, kittens, cats, dogs or other critters? Foster care is a vital part of the shelter’s ability to care for animals who need just a bit more time or special attention before they are ready to go to a new home. Foster care can vary from a few days to several weeks. More information is available on our Foster Care page.

Kennel & Cattery Caretakers

For those who prefer work behind the scenes, we need help caring for the animals’ daily needs. Working alongside the staff, volunteers assist with feeding, cleaning, washing dishes, laundry, and of course, passing out treats and toys.

Caretaker shifts are 9:00am - 12:00pm daily.

Adoption Hosts

Adoption Hosts truly bring pets and people together! We are looking for volunteers to showcase and care for the animals in our shelter! By becoming an Adoption Host, you are giving these wonderful pets an opportunity to be noticed by potential families. Hosts will:

  • Greet visitors
  • Answer basic questions about animals
  • Show animals to potential adopters
  • Care for animals’ needs such as refilling food and water dishes, washing soiled dishes and spot cleaning.

Adoption Host shifts are 12:00pm - 2:30pm and 2:30pm - 5:00pm daily.

Dog Walking

Guaranteed to keep you and the dogs healthy and happy! Every dog deserves a nice walk outside every day. Saving Grace volunteers take the dogs out for strolls around the property throughout the day. This is also a great time to reinforce good manners and teach your canine walking partner life skills - like walking politely on a leash, sit, etc.  Volunteers are asked to commit to one scheduled shift per week.

Photographers

Do you have a talent for photography or want to develop your skills? Photographers are needed to take pictures of our adoptable animals to post on our website. A little bit of your time can help an animal get noticed – and get adopted!

Off-Site Adoption Event Volunteers

We need volunteers to help with adoption events held at various locations throughout the area.  This involves picking animals up from the shelter and taking them to the location, holding or walking the animals while introducing them to potential adopters, and bringing the animals back to the shelter at the end of the event.

Maintenance/Grounds

The shelter has several acres of grounds and buildings where there is always something that needs to be done - gardening, minor building repairs, painting, cleaning up, etc. Your “handy” skills are needed somewhere at Saving Grace!
